2nd release from Bankai Audio label, continuing the exploration of mutant music in between genres, featuring new blood producers alongside established artists. Out this autumn.
[a] Noiz & Deokode - Scorched Humanity
We kick off the EP some incredibly fierce fire from new producers Noiz and Dekode.
Crafted from a studio in the hinterlands of Serbia, this is an immaculate work of ferocity and violence... Forcibly splicing together dancehall, dubstep, breakstep, electro and encasing it in hard titanium armour and thick aggro basslines, this bastardized mutant offspring has already begun tearing up dancefloors and radio stations around London and Berlin. Ultra heavy bass pressure, matched with shrapnel snares and seething dystopian atmospherics make this the soundtrack to charred wastelands and destroyed cities in some post-apocalyptic future where only uber-mutants survive in a tortured landscape. Deadly, dirty and vicious.
Based out in Subotica, Serbia, Noiz draws upon his influences of oldskool hardcore, darkcore, drum n bass, acid house, bleep techno, detroit techno, IDM, industrial, electro, breakbeat, funk, jazz/funk, future jazz, fusion, dub, roots reggae, grunge, grindcore, old school punk. He began producing electro, breakbeat, IDM and drum'n'bass 5 years ago, focusing on dark, technoid sounds. Through writing grafitti, he hooked up with Dekode who brought his own demented movie influences, haunting soundscapes, glitch bits and distorted analogue drum sections into the studio.
Together with colleagues Drum:R and Molez, they form the "Symptom" crew responsible for pushing diverse electronic music in Serbia.
So far, "Scorched Humanity" is Dekode's debut release, but expect more aggressive breakstep, electro, broken-techno tunes from him in the near future. Look out for more tracks from Noiz forthcoming on labels like Rottun Recordings, Yellow Machines and Cyberfunk.
[b] Point B - Angular Rounded
South London's Richard Bultitude turns out another crisp work of bittersweet melodic electronic music with 2 step influences from his native Brixton.
Seeking to purge himself of some pent up angst, he set about writing a track that had the snap and crunch ("angular" elements) of his earlier electro work but with a mpre "rounded" 2step/house groove. The resulting track is not dissinilar to his well-received Cinder Cones E.P. on Combat Recordings: a slinky garage mutant with the cheeky swagger and android sharpness of it's twin influences. Essentially driven by two gritty synths: one bass and one pad, Point B considered pushing those elements back to give it a long melodic phrase, but instead decided to keep it simple and grizzly for the dancefloor.
[c] Stormfield - Dysorient (Bracket remix)
Deep, warm and brooding electronica from the boss of Combat Recordings and Bankai Audio, the original Dysorient was made in winter 2008 but stayed on the hard drive as it really a dancefloor track. The tracks parts, however, ended up in the beats'n'breaks expert Bracket, who totally switched up the beats while keeping the deep drifting acid lines, pulsing subs, crisp glitchwork and brooding, warm atmospherics of the original. This remix is a unique fusion of introspective, mournful winter vibes with insanely effective dancefloor riddims, and has been championed by the Combat crew, Bun Zero, and has been causing damage on statiosn like ill FM and various gigs as far afield as Dab Solis in Latvia and as Mutant Dub in Singapore.
"love the oldskool vibe in this one... bit of breaks, bit of garage, heavy bass, good tune !" Bun Zero, Sub FM
[d] Matoa - Bio
Prague has a crew of very talented and criminally underrated musicians. As a city known for it's strong dub, jungle roots and rebel soundsystem culture, it was inevitable that producers would experiment with their influences, taking dub and soundsystem dynamics and mutating them into other styles. One of these people is Matoa - a veteran producer / DJ who's been bubbling away in the underground with a string of quality releases on the Dubkraft label. Hooking up several years ago with Stormfield via various gigs in the Czech Republic, his production and DJ skills have been duly noted for their musicality, rhythmic inventiveness and sharp engineering. When Bio turned up on our doorstep, it just had to be signed. Matoa can be seen playing at various parties in the Czech Republic, pushing the mutant dub sound.
More Bankai releasews on the way with, pushing new artists alongside established names. Look out for more from Droid Sector, Bass Science, FZV, Threnody and more.
