The Mexican scene stemmed from the raves occurring in the late 90's.Being a 3rd world where picking up on the latest sounds were somewhat delayed, many of the younger clubbers started going to parties in the desolates parts of forest on the outskirts of Mexico City and its surroundings, listening to old school techno & goa trance alike.
As in many parts of the world the scene eventually became very corporate which instigated a new & alternative sound to start up again in clubs. This time in shape of house, and its variants and for the young producers, musicians and clubbers much more appealing. The Mexican DJs were ordering records from NYC and UK and beyond, mainly breakbeat, experimental sounds from Warp Records and Rephlex Records. Fast forward to 1999 and with the whole internet boom where tastes and artistic direction became more refined, creating a sound influenced strongly by italo, old Chicago & Detroit house, and of course their own scene where promoters started making their own parties in the city driven by disco, house, and the dirty beats from the Holland, whilst the minimal tech sound thrived like everywhere else on the planet. Finally around 2008 promoters started emerging that were really into the same music and around 2009 the two founding members of Electrique Music returned from NY where the idea of the label was born. Slowly it started to take shape in Mexico, La Royale and Mr Jones (Electrique founders), and the Unsat agency was created to handle the management of the artists. There is a whole amalgamation of styles going on now in the Mexico City and Electrique Music is the rising star on the underground.
