The Society is the brainchild of Danish jazz composer Thomas Hass Christiensen - composer, arranger and saxophonist and touring member of the globe trotting Senor Coconut ensemble.
Marrying authentic jazz instrumentation and structure to computer based production, the outift focus their love of all things soulful - be it house, hip hop or jazz - to create a truly unique and heartfelt style. Their second album â??HeavyMightyMoodyGroovyâ? picks up where the last one left off. The opener â??What He Needs to Knowâ? is a slab of space-soul-funk with itâ??s ever so slightly eerie layered vocals by none other than Stones Throwâ??s ubiquitous Georgia Anne Muldrow (who blew heads with her recent â??Olesi: Fragments of Earthâ? albumâ?) and hip hop crooner Dudley Perkins; â??Sweeping Tomâ? is a jazzy house number with more than a nod to broken beat with its infectious sliced bass line with brass section riffs that sounds like a Quantic produced St. Germain record; â??Be Kind to Your Mindâ? is a slice of dubby soul with booming bass worthy of the biggest soundsystems, and â??Love Loveâ? comes across like the kind of track youâ??d get if Timbaland, Prince and Amp Fiddler got together for a cup of tea and a jam session.
â??HeavyMightyMoodyGroovyâ? is an album with a broad range of styles that should appeal to all levels of society, being all 4 adjectives of its namesake and more!
