The Society is the brainchild of Danish born Thomas Hass Christiensen - composer, arranger and saxophonist and touring member of the globe trotting Senor Coconut ensemble.
Marrying authentic jazz instrumentation and structure to computer based production, the duo focussed thier love of all things soulful, be it house, hip hop or jazz to create a truly unique and heartfelt style. This gradually led them to Philadelphia where they remixed spoken word queen Ursula Ruckers first single 'Supa Sista' and produced the sublime 'Q&A' on her 'Silver or Lead' album. In May 2003 they released their very own single 'How's Life' on US label Nite Grooves/King Street. Featuring OvaSoul 7 on vocal duties it became an instant anthem, gaining huge props from DJs such as Masters At Work, King Britt, Viktor Duplaix and Rainer Truby.
So, here we are in 2005 with the first ever Society album - and what a work of beauty it is. Deep and moving yet sprightly and danceable, it also features the cream of the burgeoning Philly Soul scene on vocal duties as well as some undiscovered gems. Jazz heads will hear strains of Miles Davis's electro-era jazz fusion, while others will hear the kinetic broken beat sound championed by artists such as 4Hero and Bugz in the Attic, but always with a unique Society twist.
