My Guitar Whales is the first taste of Paul White's sophomore album, Paul White & The Purple Brain. With its Eastern-influenced organ hook, rock hard drums, fuzzy synth bass and delirious chanting, it's hard to believe it's all sampled from the music of a cult Swedish psychedelic guru from the mid-90s. A concept album of sorts, '?& The Purple Brain' reconfigures the discography of little-known multi-instrumentalist S.T. Mikael into a dizzying array of new forms, and marks a significant step forward from 'The Strange Dreams of Paul White'.
On the flip, The Bright Future twins a naggingly catchy piano refrain with tumbling drums and the oddball touches that has won White loyal fans across the musical spectrum and should have rappers beating a path to his South London skylight studio.
Previous releases have found favour with the likes of Diplo, Mary Anne Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Rob Da Bank, Huw Stephens, House Shoes, Dazed & Confused and The Fader.
