In hot pursuit of the highly hyped Scalextrick 7' comes this new offering from cookshop favourite Jonathan Krisp.
The Tangible Gain EP picks up where Scalextrick left off as Mr Krisp takes us on another excursion of sampledelic, electronic goodness that manages to be both quirky and abstract and at the same time satisfyingly accessible.
The title track Tangible Gain is a summery affair combining a lush John Barry-esque loop and shimmering rhodes underpinned by shuffling upbeat drums with a good dose of rolling sub bass. Essential music for barbecue party folk.
I Got Pangs stomps off in the dancefloor's direction with a sound that can only be described as retro-acid-disco-house, cramming in eight minutes worth of filthy yet melodic Krispy business. Whatever it is he's panging for, we definitely want some too.
A flip of the disc finds some killer remixes of Tangible Gain from South Coast cats Flevans (Tru Thoughts), Mawglee (Bastard Jazz) and Mr Candu (cookshop). Flevans creates a breakbeat dancefloor monster introducing a fuzzy, punk-funk bassline into the proceedings, whilst Mr Candu twists the original into a virtually unrecognizable lush melodic electronic affair. Mawglee rounds off proceedings with a beautiful downtempo version augmented by strings from Brighton's one man orchestra Mike Simmonds (Quantic Soul Orchestra/Bonobo).
With more variety than a KFC Bucket it's another surefire smash from the cookshop collective.'
